Tuesday, July 17
$10 9:30pm
Opening: Hunters, DJ Bud Sweet
The grimy, industrial tinged sound of A Place To Bury Strangers seems custom-made for Empty Bottle. We caught them years ago, oddly mismatched as an opener for the gorgeous folk of Sea Wolf. Even as a badly matched opener, they left a strong impression.
Wednesday, July 18
$10 9pm
Washington, D.C. indie rockers, These United States bring their tattered country-kissed sound to the Schubas stage Wednesday night. We stumbled across them opening for Lucero a few years back, and have kept them in high regard ever since.
Friday, July 20
$7 5pm
Opening: Gypsy Traveler, John L. Sullivan & Vaudevileins
Yeah, it is an early show on a weeknight in the 'burbs, but we are simply that in love with Scott Lucas & The Married Men's latest album. If you somehow cannot make the Friday show, we recommend heading to Roscoe Village Burger Fest on Saturday to catch their fantastic alt-country swagger.
Sunday, July 22
$15 10pm
Opening: Chris Scruggs
With the 7pm show already sold out, Kelly Hogan offers a second helping at 10pm. The singer-songwriter released her fifth excellent fifth solo album earlier this year, leaving it a little confusing as to how you get to see her at such a wonderfully small venue.
$10 6pm
We do not recommend too many festival shows, but we make an exception for the stellar live stylings of Chicago's Canasta at this Lincoln Park festival. Call them chamber pop, call them indie rock, just call them fantastic. The band brings the horn section for this show. Since they are a must-see even without the horns, it makes this our pick of the week.
