Now Here This - Week of July 9, 2012

We would recommend easing yourself back to work this week, but the concert calendar is relentless in its rockness this week.

Monday, July 9
Blitzen Trapper @ Lincoln Hall
$20 8pm
Opening: Sarah Jaffe

All due respect to Blitzen Trapper, it is Texas singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe that draws us to Lincoln Hall on Monday night. She took a sharp turn with a more electronic sound for her sophomore album, paying off for one of the best albums of the year.

Tuesday, July 10
Fiona Apple @ The Chicago Theatre
$45 - $75 7:30pm

Uber-talented Fiona Apple arrives in Chicago on the heels of releasing her masterful, long-awaited fourth studio album.

 Wednesday, July 11
Right Away, Great Captain (Andy Hull) @ Subterranean
$15 7pm
Opening: Casey Crescenzo (The Dear Hunter), Harrison Hudson

Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull lands at the tiny Subterranean stage with his fantastic solo project, Right Away, Great Captain. The shaggy folk style of the project fit his gruff, emotional voice and narrative songwriting brilliantly. This is a must-see show at a small venue, leaving us baffled as to how there are still tickets available.

Thursday, July 12
Sound Opinions Live @ Lincoln Hall
FREE 5:30pm
Featuring: Japandroids, Ty Segall

Want to hear fuzzed-out rock duo Japandroids play and talk about their music for free at one of the finest venues in the city? Sure you do. Head to SoundOpinions.com for your free tickets.

Owl City @ Bottom Lounge
SOLD OUT 7:30pm

Bedroom electro-pop outfit, Owl City rarely play in venues the size of Bottom Lounge anymore, but they fly through Bottom Lounge in advance of their latest album, The Midsummer Station, hits shelves in August.

Friday, July 14
Father John Misty @ Schubas
$16 10:30pm
Opening: Night Moves, Gal Pals

Former Fleet Foxes drummer, J. Tillman brings his new solo project to the fantastic Schubas stage. Anyone with an affinity for great folk rock should consider this show a must.

Sunday, July 15
Tanlines @ Lincoln Hall
$14 10pm
Opening: California Wives

Brooklyn duo, Tanlines bring their excellent uptempo electropop sound to Lincoln Hall to close out the weekend with a bang. Lovable "All Of Me" might be getting the airplay right now, but there are plenty of other excellent tracks on their debut to make you wonder how much longer they will be able to play at venues this size.
