Now Here This - Week of July 2, 2012

If you tire of blowing stuff up and roasting meat over an open flame, the city has plenty of sonic excitement in store this week.

Thursday, July 5
Alberta Cross @ Lincoln Hall
$14 9pm
Opening: Everest, Aaron Lee Tasjan

With Alberta Cross nearing the release of their sophomore album, and Everest just releasing their latest, this is a great chance to catch two bands on the verge of breakout success at one of the city's finest venues.

Conveyor @ Schubas
$10 9pm
Opening: YAWN, The Sueves

This marks a rare time where we are willing to recommend a show on the strength of the opening act. Chicago's YAWN are a full-length album away from being the next band to erupt out of Chicago. Their vibrant new EP, Happy Tears, is dying to be heard live.

Sunday, July 8
Wilco @ Fifth Third Bank in Geneeva
$50 5:30pm
Opening: Andrew Bird and His Band (full set), The Congregation

There is not much to be said here other than it is freaking Wilco and Andrew Bird each playing full sets in a large outdoor venue for the price that you would typically pay to see one of them. We are not sure how you could possibly skip out on making the short drive to Kane County for this killer line-up.

Mates Of State @ Empty Bottle
$15 9:30pm
Opening: Blonds

Husband and wife duo, Mates Of State bring their keyboard fueled indie pop magic to the small Empty Bottle stage. They usually land sold-out shows at places like Metro, so stop questioning how they are at this venue and jump on tickets now.

Monday, July 9
Blitzen Trapper @ Lincoln Hall
$20 8pm
Opening: Sarah Jaffe

All due respect to Blitzen Trapper, it is Texas singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe that draws us to Lincoln Hall on Monday night. She took a sharp turn with a more electronic sound for her sophomore album, paying off for one of the best albums of the year.
