Freebie Friday - June 8, 2012

For our inaugural Freebie Friday sampling of free tracks, we dive in with a handful of excellent music to get you through the weekend.

Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra: Want It Back

We love Amanda Palmer, and judging by the over a million dollars (and counting) raised by her Kickstarter we are not the only ones. The upbeat piano rock bop mixes in a thick swath of synth and punchy riffs for a pretty awesome track that makes the September release date of Theater Is Evil seem too far off.  The Dresden Dolls' singer's fiery vocals aren't half bad either.

Maps & Atlases: Winter

The Chicago band's second album is a huge leap forward for the already mind-blowing band. Dave Davison's uniquely soaring vocals and the jittery, sparkling guitars add up to fantastic summer listen, in spite of its title. After you fall in love with this one, we highly recommend picking up all of Beware & Be Grateful

Ramona Falls: Spore

They were just here this week at Schubas, but we are already hoping they return soon. The solo project of, former Menomena member, Brent Knopf is one of the more interesting bands around. The gorgeous blend of cascading guitar, humming synth, and pulsing beats wrapped around his angelic vocals will make this a fast favorite off the recently released sophomore offering,

The Spring Standards: Watch The Moon Disappear

Fans of gritty female singer-songwriters like Kathleen Edwards will fall for this New York folk-rock trio as soon as Heather Robb belts out her first notes. The rest of you will just have to be in awe of how great the band sounds in the great blend of jangling piano, shaggy acoustic guitar, and a snarling solo. We may have hit repeat a handful of times writing this piece.
