Australian indie rock quintet, The Temper Trap return a couple of years after grabbing your attention with thier lush "Sweet Disposition" in the trailer for 500 Days Of Summer. Dougy Mandagi's dramatic vocals are right at home in the blippy synth pop haze of "Where Do We Go From Here", but cross the line to overly theatrical when he goes off-beat in the lightly flickering verses of Duran Duran inspired "Trembling Hands". Thankfully, the songs typically play to Mandagi's vocal power, with his towering vocals proudly trumpeting through neon-drenched rocker "Need Your Love" proving a definite highlight. Wailing post-punk "London's Burning" takes on the riots with spindly guitars and searing vocals, while recalling early Radiohead on the chilly acoustic winner "Rabbit Hole", where Mandagi's tortured falsetto has an inescapable pull. The fetal heartbeat pulsing through sweet "Miracle" is a nice touch on the track about being in awe of your yet-unborn child. The album balances the lush romantic swells of "I'm Gonna Wait" against the more pulsing new wave flicker of tracks like "Never Again" well, for a balanced, dynamic listen that proves "Sweet Disposition" was no fluke.
