Scott Lucas & The Married Men: Blood Half Moon Review

Local H front man, Scott Lucas returns with the sophomore album from his side project. You might be tempted to call it a 'solo' effort, but that would diminish the fantastic band flushing out the gorgeous folk-rock offerings. The fiddle of Rebecca Manthe (The Tossers) looms large on the album's more fiery moments, like stormy eight-minute closer "There Ain't No Grave (Gonna Hold My Body Down)", while lending the guitar of jangling rocker "Steady Gaze" a limber dance partner. The gritty, fiddle and guitar drenched climax to opening "Lover, The Lullaby" quickly assures you that this the album is not as casual and sleepy as the first mellow verse might lead you to believe. Still, Lucas' graceful vocals and the velvety blanket of sound breezing behind him on the country-kissed, melodic title-track and the dusty country-pop sheen of "There You Are" leave you sure it would still be a damn fine album if they did stay the mellow course. Lucas and crew serve up a delicious blend of orchestral rock, folk, and country on their excellent second album.
