Now Here This - Week of June 11, 2012

Another week, another excellent batch of live shows in Chicago.  With most of next week's offerings sold out, we recommend jumping on your tickets to these shows early - and taking a peek at our list of upcoming shows we think will sell out at the bottom.

Monday, June 11
The Duke Spirit @ Lincoln Hall
$17 - 8pm
Opening: Hacienda

London guitar rock outfit, The Duke Spirit head to our favorite venue, a few months after the release of their third album, Bruiser. Their powerful blend of rock n roll and soul make them a great bet to catch live.

Gospel Music / Wintersleep @ Schubas
$8 - 8pm

Canadian indie rockers, Wintersleep bring their carefully crafted clatter to the Schubas stage a day before their great fifth album, Hello Hum, hits shelves. We can confirm that the anxious bliss that is, lead single, "In Came The Flood", is not the only tightly wound gem on the album. Their antsy stadium-ready, guitar-rich sound should play great at one of our favorite small venues.

Wednesday, June 13
Harper Blynn @ Schubas
$10 - 9pm
Opening: Madi Diaz

Already a great live band, Harper Blynn's Busy Hands has been one of the best surprises of the year. Full of exceedingly catchy rock songs, the album should sound fantastic on the small Schubas stage.

Friday, June 15
Walk The Moon @ Lincoln Hall
SOLD OUT - 8:30pm
Opening: Morning Parade

Buzz band + Lincoln Hall = must-see-show. Unfortunately, you will probably have to catch this Cincinnati quartet at a larger venue next time they come through.

The Hundred In The Hands @ Empty Bottle
$12 - 10pm
Opening: Pressures, Vorhees

Brooklyn electro-pop duo, The Hundred In The Hands bring their electrifying sound to the wonderful small room of Empty Bottle on Friday. Like a slightly less guitar-focused take on the murky midnight pop vibes of Phantogram should sound great at the venue.

Saturday, June 16
Jonathan Coulton @ Double Door
$24 - 9pm
Opening: John Roderick

Perhaps best known for his musical contributions to the Portal videogame franchise, Jonathan Coulton proves he has much more up his sleeve than some slickly written game humor on his great 2011 album, Artificial Heart. With The Long Winters' John Roderick opening, this is a killer line-up that should not be missed.

Sunday, June 17
Cloud Cult @ Lincoln Hall
$15 - 8pm
Opening: Caroline Smith & The Good Night Sleeps

Minneapolis art-rockers, Cloud Cult float into the city's best venue for a night of dreamy rock and art - with artists on-stage painting works as the band rocks out. As fantastic as they are on album, they are the kind of band that must be seen to be believed.

The Mynabirds @ Schubas
$10 - 8pm
Opening: Sean Bones

Fresh off the release of their sophomore album, General, exceptional soulful folk-rock outfit, The Mynabirds land at a stage that seems alarmingly too small for their talent. This is the kind of talent-to-stage ratio that screams must-see show, and makes this our pick for show of the week.
