Motion City Soundtrack: Go Review

Minneapolis pop-punk outfit, Motion City Soundtrack return to the indie label circuit following their damn-fine major label debut, My Dinosaur Life. Their ability to mesh toothy guitars and infectious pop hooks remains strong here, landing a winner straight away with Justin Pierre's crisp, melodic vocals riding pulsing riffs to the searing hook of "Circuits And Wires". Pierre nostalgically looking back on his path to stardom, failures and all, and a soaring hook add up to the album's best moment on "Timelines", while a blast of sunny strummed acoustic and a gooey synth melody add up to a feel-good summer tune on "True Romance". The album maintains a contagiously cheery disposition throughout, with even the seemingly macabre "Everyone Will Die" keeping a bright outlook with strummy acoustic and orchestra-laced backing for Pierre's upbeat vocals. The uplifting "Bad Idea" finds the rich, shimmering riffs riding occasional synth frills as Pierre happily confesses, "I want to tell you, there was no one that I ever believed in / More than you". From the hand-clap beats and flurry of guitars making up adorable "Boxelder" to the playful jabs of "Son Of A Gun", Motion City Soundtrack's latest might just be the feel-good album of the summer.
