Bahamas: Barchords Review

Canadian singer-songwriter, Bahamas made a name for himself with the delightful, if excessively placid, debut, Pink Strat. The tempo does not pick up much this time around, but he feels a bit more comfortable awash in the mellow cool of his music on the lovely "Lost In The Light" , the drippy blues thump of "Never Again", and playfully bouncy "I Got You Babe". The surfer-noir aesthetic remains, but there is a flushed-out bop to tunes like "Caught Me Thinking", as he wonders, "What was I thinking, as if my drinking was the only thing that drove her away", over a sparkling guitar shimmer. Slowly strummed numbers like the icy "Snowplow" and lethargic "Montreal" are still here, but they are elevated by more vibrant moments like the shallow stabbing riffs and deep bass groove of "Your Sweet Touch".
