Devin: Romancing Review

The punk-infused, classic rock n roll sound of Devin's debut album make the singer-songwriter sound like Elvis Costello shot full of adrenaline, singing through Billy Idol's snarled lip. The result is an electrifying blast of fiery, love-obsessed rock that sinks its hooks into you quickly with the freewheeling charm of "Masochist". Devin's raw, growled vocals elevate the strut and sway of guitars on "I Don't Think I" into classic fifties rock cool spiked with punk attitude. His raspy wail awash in pulsing riffs on "Run" and uptempo jog of guitars and drums on "Forever Is Only A Moment" are balanced out with chilled rock n roll balladry like "My Solitude" and the shuffling flow of "White Leather". The way the album jumps fearlessly into the vintage throwback pool feels like rock's answer to Mayer Hawthorne, and makes it an easy one to recommend.
