The blend of grimy club grinds and orchestral touches of, German composer, Hauschka chopped to bits make for an interesting, if occasionally clunky, listen on Breton's debut. The creaky groan of broken melodies that make up the vocals somehow mesh with the stuttering beats and closely looped piano of "Electrician" for hypnotic results, while the disco guitar shimmer and club-ready synth melody of "Jostle" and eerie dance of bass and strings on "Pacemaker" make for a vibrant, varied listen. The sparser moments on the effort fall a bit short, like the lethargic "2 Years", but overstuffed tracks like the cluttered mess of "Wood And Plastic" and awkward combo of brassy blasts and grimy synth slither on "Interference" fare no better. Breton are at their best when riding the line between chaos and inventiveness, as they do with the electro blips, funky flickering riffs, and deep bass groove of "Governing Correctly". Thankfully, what work here is good enough to overlook the few bits that fall flat, leaving you eager to hear where they head next.
