Genre-bending indie rock outfit, Big Science announce themselves as a force to be reckoned with on their wonderful debut album. The textured guitar rippling through a churning dance beat and metallic bass thump on "Crown For The Hanging" sits alongside the synth drenched dream pop and stuttering beats of "AM Golden". The addictive marriage of grooving bass and danceable strutting riffs that is "Blind Our Eyes" is elevated by its infectious hook, serving up the best example of Big Science's charm on the album; though their debut does not lack for ear-catching jams. The exceptional poppy jangle of "No One Ever Wakes Up" seems to indicate that they would excel at being a piano rock outfit if they so wished, but the shimmering guitar, hand-clap beats, and pleading vocals bundled into a stellar package on "Subliminal" leaves you glad they rock out more often than not. There is no shortage of great local talent in Chicago, and Big Science make a strong bid to be the city's next breakout band with tracks as strong as the plucky guitar and beat blend of "Loose Change Century".
