Now Here This - Week of May 14, 2012

Thankfully, the concert gods have been nice enough to get you in and out of the live music landscape before the weekend's potential chaos. We will be back with more indie rock goodness next week, protestors permitting.

Wednesday, May 16
Active Child @ Lincoln Hall
$15 - 9pm
Opening: Balam Acab, Superhumanoids

The dreamy haze of Active Child's beautiful, electronic fuelled pop sails into Lincoln Hall on Wednesday. The swirling new wave dipped music combined with Pat Grossi's lovley tender vocals, ranging from soaring falsetto to warm, dramatic tenor should play well at one of our favorite venues in the city.

Damien Jurado @ Schubas
SOLD OUT - 8pm
Opening: JBM

With all due respect to Mr. Jurado, this is one of those rare occasions where we are recommending a show due to the opening act. JBM's Stray Ashes comes out May 22nd, but we have already got it spinning heavily on our iPod and can confirm that it is fantastic. Montreal singer-songwriter, Jesse Marchant's vocals land somewhere between the hush of M. Ward and the caterwauling cool of Jim James, and the strangely comforting chill of his carefully crafted music should sound fantastic at Schubas.

Thursday, May 17
Rocky Votolato @ Schubas
$15 - 9pm
Opening: Kevin Long

Seattle singer-songwriter, Rocky Votolato lands at Schubas fresh off the release of his latest, Television Of Saints, earlier this year. The clean acoustic arrangements shine a well-deserved spotlight on Votolato's wonderful melodies and excellent narrative songwriting chops. It seems to be a perfect marriage of artist and venue, and a must-see show for folk rock fans.

Looking ahead to next week
Wednesday, May 23 - PS I Love You @ Schubas $8 9pm Opening: Army Girls, Cuff The Duke
Thursday, May 24 - Dry The River @ Beat Kitchen $10pm
