Guitar pop has become a lost art, but Harper Blynn seems driven to keep it alive and well on their infectious sophomore album.
Their unshakable melodic hooks reign supreme on tracks like the cartwheeling oohs and riffs of "I Think I'm Falling In Love" and downhill drums riding buzz sawing guitars on "Sucker", as the hook gleefully confesses their addiction to love. The few bits of filler, like the tranquil organ hum of "I've Got Time", are easy to forgive because of how lovable the more frequent high points are. Old school folk strummer "High End Melody" and the soaring, sunny angst of "Dandelion Head" show off the band's ability to nail the mellow moments as well as the larger showpieces thanks to their rich melodies. The vocals jogging playfully alongside the teetering guitar of "Come Home To Me" is out shined by the wonderful melody in the bridge, though the flickering synth in the hook feels like an unnecessary garnish. Still, it is an easy misstep to overlook given how easily the track soaks into your skin, much like the rest of the album.
