Great Lake Swimmers: New Wild Everywhere Review

The blend of tranquil, string-enhanced folk backing and Tony Dekker's warm melodic vocals weave magic on Great Lake Swimmers' fifth studio album. The album opens with effortless dance of drizzled guitar and gracefully floating violin on "Think That You Might Be Wrong" setting the perfect bed for Dekker's disarmingly charming voice. The dreamy fog of "The Great Exhale" sounds like Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" making out with Neil Young, while the gleaming fiddle laying a country sheen on "Changes With The Wind" finds the band capable of pretty fantastic toe-tapping alt-country when they want. The Toronto band's ability to hold your attention in tender ballads like "Quiet Your Mind" and twinkling cool of "The Knife", thanks to wonderful musicianship and excellent songwriting, is what makes this album stick.
