Phoenix quintet, KNESSET deliver a solid dose of shoegazer cool on their mellow debut. The guitars creaking and sweeping through a tumbling drum beat on "Steady Hands" opens the album strongly, with Evan Fox's reedy vocals gaining confidence in the warm hook. The guitars flickering through "Bitter Hearts" create a chilled vibe, matching Fox's slowly paced vocals as he looks to end a relationship against occasional waves of distortion. The hazy tone of the album works great, with the undercurrent of strummed guitar and plucked goodness on top of "Summer Sun" and the lightly chugging pace of "Tell Me All Your Lies" sounding like you are looking at the album through a dusty garage window. Ultimately, the grainy asthetic at work here is effective, and their ability to craft jangly tunes like "Raw Sound" make KNESSET a band worth checking out.
